Right now, the only way to electronically sign an attachment is for the provider to open the chart, go to the Medical tab, click on the misc. tab, then open the document read it, close the tab, click on 'sign" (love the new signature) then go back to the desk top and mark the attachment read. This is very cumbersome, and actually does not prove the provider even read the document as they could click sign without opening the document.

A much better way, and one that at least would make the appearance of the provider reading the document, is to remove the sign tab from the lower right list and add the ability inside the open document only.

One way to do this is to have a tab similar to on the lab results where the provider can make notes and sign right on the document more easily. The annotation ability is a little cumbersome, but if it dated and timed the note was made, it could effectively and easily make the document signed. Another way is how some DM have, is once a document is filed having the option to forward the document to the provider directly from the DM (which would be great for scanned in items). A window opens along side the document when it opens, where the provider can make notes, forward back to the staff member, and sign off the document. When printed, this window prints out as another page of the document. The electronic signature is still shown across the top of the document.

We have had insurance audits who ask us how we can show a provider has read a document. Right now we have to give them a stack of printed papers for their physical notes, where this could be made so easy for them to do through the document manager, and also when opening an attachment.

This would be a great enhancement to help our providers pass audits of viewing documents
