EMR Duplicate Diagnosis Rule Needed
We need to be able to make a custom rule in the rules manager to trigger a warning if the provider selects a duplicate diagnosis on the same encounter. We need a diagnosis trigger in the rules manager that will allow the user to ensure the provider cannot select the same ICD 10 code twice on the same encounter. Why does this happen? It can happen because the system has 100+ descriptions for one ICD 10 code. This can confuse the provider who may select two totally different ICD 10 descriptions, but they are actually the same ICD 10 code. This will reduce the workload and increase efficiency in any clients’ claims department who has to fix held claims due to "duplicate diagnosis".

The assessment area within an emr uses the Snomed codes not ICD a billing code, in your example I believe the provider is picking two different Snomed codes so they are not duplicates. We have used the standard Snomed coding in the assessments from the inception of the application, and this is a standard followed and used by Meaningful Use. The Snomed codes can have the same ICD associated, there is not a one to one mapping between the every Snomed assessment code and ICD billing codes. In a future version (12.0.3) there will be an option that can be set to use the ICD code set verse the Snomed and automatically as the system does with Snomed it will warn the user if the same code is chosen. This change will not affect Meaningful Use since in the back ground we will still be mapping to the Snomed code set.
