Prompt for creation of related elements in Stage 2 Core Measure #15
For Stage 2 Core Measure 15, physicians are required to produce a referral order, complete a transition of care (out) and provide a summary of care. All three of these then must be provided in one of three ways, physically, through direct email or through a HIE.
Since in MicroMD only the physicians can do this in order for the system to calculate the reports and support staff cannot assist with these tasks, we are proposing the following enhancement:
When a referral is ordered from the plan step of an encounter, the system should prompt:
"Do you wish to complete a referral order?" Yes/No
If yes: Paper/Electronic
"Do you wish to create a transition of care (out)?" Yes/No
If yes: Paper/Electronic
"Do you wish to produce a summary of care?" Yes/No
If yes: Print/Send (upon completion of encounter)
This would result in the physicians not having to remember the rules of each of the measures and concentrate again, on treating their patients and providing more quality in their care. As it is the physicians have to remember to make their way to the patient monitor to find and complete the referral order and the transition out, then back to the bill builder to produce the summary of care, all this after completing the encounter during which they added a referral order in the plan section (for documentation purposes only since the staff can't complete it and have it count towards MU).
This would be a smoother flow to completing an encounter without distracting the physicians with tasks their assistants could normally be completing for them, while they tend to the patients and not paperwork.
